Looking for a program that integrates theology, spirituality and psychology

While completing my graduate studies in psychological counseling, I clearly remember my desire to find a doctoral program that would allow me to theoretically and practically integrate spirituality, theology, and psychology. I began to investigate different doctoral programs with that specialty and academic rigor, but I did not find an interdisciplinary integration that satisfied my expectations.

Some time later, I had the opportunity to talk with my friend and professor, Dr. Jules Martinez, who recommended Wheaton College to me. This university enjoys academic prestige in both the Christian and secular spheres, and has a doctoral program in clinical psychology approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), integrating theology, spirituality and psychology. I was fascinated by this information.

I continued exploring the university and, upon analyzing its academic offerings, I knew it was what I was looking for. I decided to visit the university with my wife. We personally met the admissions team, who kindly and diligently gave us a tour and oriented us about the university, its vision, the program and student life. My wife and I were impressed to see a university culture that seeks to serve, cultivate humility and faith, as well as be academically rigorous. Later, I had meetings with admissions counselors, the director of admission, professors, and the head of the psychology department. Here I share a photo from my first visit to Wheaton College in the summer of 2021.

After a time of thorough reflection and preparation, we decided to apply to college with faith put into action. We work with every intention of being admitted, from GRE preparation, academic research and essays, to the interview process. This was one of the most important decisions, since it involved moving from Puerto Rico to the United States.

It was an adventure full of emotions, learning and growth. I was looking forward to the decision letter from the admissions team, and that wait was long but satisfying. When it finally arrived and I saw that I was admitted to the Clinical Psychology Program, I experienced a mix of emotions. We finally had our prayers answered and we are on our way to continuing the calling God placed on my heart and my wife's.

Until next time...

Sino abierta a leerte. Muy interesada. Muchas gracias. Desde Cali Colombia. ERIKA MORALES CAICEDO
