Psicologia y Teologia

About my Psychology & Theology project

On many occasions, science and faith have been seen as antagonistic. However, it is not necessary to see it this way, since both can coexist and nourish each other, developing a science with meaning and a faith with understanding. Within this dialogue, I consider psychology and theology en route to disciplinary integration from theory to practice.

Since I was a child, I always had a great desire to study the Bible and cultivate a relationship with Jesus Christ. During my youth, I had the opportunity to minister through preaching and music. My interest in theology arose in response to the call to the ministry of Jesus Christ. As a youth leader at my local church, I began studying a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and then taught Christian education at a private school. Contributing to the comprehensive training of each student has been one of the most satisfying experiences I have had.

These experiences motivated me to continue my professional and ministerial development through a Master of Arts in Religious Education, where I studied pedagogy and theology. During my teaching practice in the local church and school, a desire arose to study psychology to better understand human personality, attitudes and behaviors, and their relationship to spirituality. Thus, I began a Master of Science in Psychological Counseling. In those years, I appreciated the diversity of psychological models and theories, and I began to identify intersections between psychology and theology while only studying the models. A few months after completing my degree in psychology, I passed the psychology revalidation exam from the Puerto Rico Psychologist Examining Board.

As a psychologist focused on integrating spirituality and theology into psychotherapy, I see the need to integrate clients' religious and spiritual beliefs, history, and practices. Also, incorporate psychological themes into theology and the church. I think that both theology and psychology provide ontological, epistemological and existential understanding, and when both are combined interdisciplinary it offers unique perspectives.

Currently, I am pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) at Wheaton College, where I have the opportunity to delve deeper into the integration of theology, spirituality, and psychology. This program, approved by the American Psychological Association (APA), allows me to explore how these fields can complement each other.

Currently, I have the opportunity to serve individuals, groups, churches and organizations through consulting and other services based on the integration of theology and psychology. Here I share some of them:

Counseling & Psychotherapy

I am aware that starting a therapy process can be difficult. I commit to being sensitive to this situation, listening carefully and valuing your trust. I offer therapy based on integrative models such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, Logotherapy and Positive Psychology, adopting a bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach. I integrate client's spiritual beliefs and practices, ensuring culturally sensitive and relevant treatment. My goal is to provide a safe space for each client to explore and overcome their difficulties, developing their strengths and internal resources.

Consultancy

I have had the privilege of speaking with various mental health professionals and pastors about the integration of psychology and theology for theoretical and practical understanding. My goal is to contribute to the development of these leaders through consulting, facilitating a healthy and responsible disciplinary, professional and ministerial integration. I work with them to address their questions and challenges, promoting a holistic approach that considers spiritual, emotional and psychological aspects, thus enriching their ability to serve their communities more fully and effectively.

Workshops & Conferences

I deeply enjoy the teaching-learning process that I have cultivated throughout my professional career. I teach topics related to Theology and Psychology and their implications for research, mental health, and practice in counseling and psychotherapy. I am pleased to educate in various modalities, including courses, workshops and conferences. Currently, I offer these services both virtually and in person, adapting to the needs of leaders, pastors, and mental health professionals to enrich their knowledge and practice in a comprehensive and effective way.

Digital Resources

I am constantly creating digital resources in our online school. There you can find templates, workshops, and courses designed for leaders, pastors, mental health professionals, and people with psychological needs or interested in positive psychology. These resources are available in digital format and can be accessed from your favorite electronic device anytime, anywhere.
